This is a knife-painting. Nothing big, but instead of a brush, you take a knife and smear paint on its edge and then apply it to the canvas. This painting was done on hard wood.
Gomukh is the source of River Ganga, considered the holiest river in India. The source of the river is a glacier, depicted here. It is shaped like the snout of a cow - hence the name. We traveled to this heavenly location a few years back.
This is a reproduction of a Ravi Varma painting - a visibly upset Damayanti talking to a Hamsam (swan?) who plays the messenger bringing news from her estranged husband Nala. I did this reproduction on fabric, some 60 of them for a dress designer in Bangalore.
